Psst… It’s Me, UV! | SunSmart Reading Comprehension (Years 3–4)
A fun, Aotearoa-made reading comprehension that teaches tamariki how to stay safe in the sun, told by UV itself.
UV is invisible, sneaky and very proud of its sunburn trick. In this cheeky letter it explains why it’s so strong in an Aotearoa summer, then reluctantly gives away the four words that ruin it: Slip, Slop, Slap and Wrap. Students read, think, then talk back to UV with a note of their own.
Read it together, let students reread on their own, then answer. For a real-world hook, check the day’s UV Index on the UVNZ app before morning tea.
